While under anesthesia each tooth is examined and evaluated for evidence of periodontal disease. A thorough cleaning will be performed both below and above the gum line. Any necessary extractions will be performed. A dental procedure is finished with a final polish of the teeth to prevent bacteria and food from sticking to the tooth surface. Pain medication and antibiotics will be administered or sent home as needed.
Dental radiographs are an important part of a thorough dental cleaning. They help identify dental issues that are below the gum line. Fractured roots, retained teeth, bone infection (osteomyelitis), and tooth resorption are some of the issues that dental radiographs help identify.
